Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia Receives Earlier Release Date

Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are out to save the world

Bugonia, Yorgos Lanthimos’ film, has a release date set, and it’s earlier than fans expected.

Starring previous collaborators Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, the film is an English-language remake of 2003’s Save the Green Planet! Focus Features will distribute it in the US.

Bugonia will first play in select theatres in New York and Los Angeles on October 24, 2025, before expanding nationwide on October 31. Previously, fans were expecting a November 7, 2025, release date, and so the earlier date may be a pleasant surprise.

The film follows two young men who kidnap a major company CEO, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying Earth. Stone, who won an Academy Award for her performance in Lanthimos’ Poor Things, will play the CEO.

Plemons is also a returning collaborator, having worked with both Lanthimos and Stone in 2024’s Kinds of Kindness.

Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), Stavros Halkias, and Aidan Delbis are also amongst the cast. Lanthimos himself will head the project, whilst also obtaining a producer credit alongside Stone, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, Miky Lee, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.

Save the Green Planet!, directed by Jang Joon-hwan, is available to stream on Kanopy.
