Watch Trailer For Mamoru Hosoda’s Belle

Studio Chizu have released a international Trailer for Academy Award nominee Mamoru Hosoda’s Belle. The film was announced earlier today as part of 2021 Cannes Film Festival programme hence we have a English language promo.
Hosada is the filmmaker behind The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Wolf Children, Mirai. The highly anticipated film follows the story of a young girl sinking deep into depression and finds solace in a virtual world called ‘U’. In that virtual world she is a singer followed by millions, a journey that she hope will help come who she truly is.
This looks like it will tick all the boxes for Hosada fans. It looks truly magical, and can go as far as saying this film could resonate as slowly come out of the coronavirus pandemic. Could this film see Hosada get another Oscar nomination?
Belle follows Suzu, a 17-year-old high school student living in a rural village with her father. For years she has only been a shadow of herself. One day, Suzu enters “U,” a virtual world of five billion online , and she becomes Belle, a world-famous singer. Belle soon meets with a mysterious creature with whom she embarks on a journey of adventures and love both in their quest of becoming who they truly are.
The film includes the voice cast of Kaho Nakamura, Kenjirô Tsuda, Mamoru Miyano, Kôji Yakusho, Toshiyuki Morikawa, and Ryô Narita.
Belle doesn’t have a UK or Irish distributor or even a release date announced yet. The film will be released in Japanese cinemas from 16th July.
