I when Channel 4 introduced the likes of American Football to the UK in the 1980’s. I was more hooked to the other sport they aired, Basketball and Earvin Johnson was one prominent stars of the decade. You might know him better as Magic Johnson and Apple TV have unveiled the Trailer for his documentary They Call Me magic.

The four-part documentary which has recently made it’s word premiere at SXSW in Austin USA. The docies promises to take an illuminating, holistic look into the life and career of Earvin “Magic” Johnson. Regarded as one of the greatest NBA players who made a name for himself at LA Lakers. His world was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with HIV, forcing him to retire in 1991.

The series promises to celebrate his life, why he’s nicknamed ‘Magic’ and why HIV will not dictate his life…

They Call Me Magic offers a rare glimpse into the incredible real-life story of Johnson, who left his mark on history through his work—both on and off the court—and continues to impact our culture today. The series features intimate, never-before-seen interviews with Magic, his family, and an all-star lineup of friends.With unprecedented access, the docies explores Earvin “Magic” Johnson’s remarkable journey from being the face of the Los Angeles Lakers and cementing himself as an all-time NBA legend, to changing the conversation around HIV, and transforming into a successful entrepreneur and community activist. From his humble beginnings in Lansing, Michigan to becoming the global force he is today, “They Call Me Magic” charts the cinematic life of one of the biggest icons of our era.

The documentary includes interviews from Cookie Johnson, EJ Johnson, Larry Bird, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neil, President Obama, Fred Stabley Jr., Dwayne Wade, Jerry West, Michael Wilbon and more.

They Call Me Magic will premiere globally on Apple TV+ from 22nd April.
