Tomas Alfedson Re-teaming With Studiocanal On ‘Jonsson Gang’

Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson is re-teaming with Studiocanal once again with The Jonsson Gang. They worked with the director on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Let The Right One In and now The with the highly anticipated Swedish release set for December 2020.

They will also handle the films worldwide sales.

Alfredson returns to his comedy roots with the reboot of the popular Swedish film series. The film follows a failed heist, Charles-Ingvar ‘Sickan’ Jonsson ends up in prison. Once released, his gang have become law-abiding citizens and Sickan has to continue on his own. Crime broker Anita tasks him with a simple burglary which turns out to be something a lot bigger than Sickan thought. Now he needs the help of his past accomplices to carry out the most difficult heist in the history of the gang…

The film stars Henrik Dorsin (Triangle of Sadness), Hedda Stiernstedt (The Restaurant), David Sundin (Taskmaster), Myanna Buring (Downton Abbey) , Lena Olin (Chocolate). Anders Johansson (Anders & MÅns),Henric Holmberg (The Mozart Brothers) Marie GÖranzon (False As Water), Lennart HjulstrÖm (The Last Sentence) Pekka Strang (Tom Of Finland) and Reine Brynolfsson (Love & Anarchy).

The director said “The Jonsson Gang is based on a film series from the 1980s that practically every living Swedish person has seen. An international audience mostly knows my work with intimidating vampires and sullen spies, while most of my work has been comedic. It’s been a lot of fun to return to something laughable and we look forward to finding a worldwide audience with Studiocanal.”

The film was written by Tomas Alfredson, Henrik Dorsin and Rikard Ulvshammar, and produced by Anna Carlsten, Pontus Edgren, Joshua Mehr and Fatima Varhos.

There is no word on when The Jonsson Gang will be released in the UK and Ireland, December for Sweden.
