Tom Hiddleston Surprises Fans at San Diego Comic Con 2013

Tom Hiddleston at Comic Con 2013 as Loki

loki_comic-con-ssshhh!San Diego Comic Con, a weekend for fans of comic books to dress up as their favourite characters and attend s and Q&A sessions with their favourite actors.

Fans range from any age and are usually everyday people. A new level was raised this year, as it seems actors can too. Enter to Hall H,Thor: The Dark World.

There were many rumours throughout last week on social networking sites Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr as to where a certain British actor would attend, let alone in full Loki persona, asking the crowd of 6,000 people to Say My Name

The crowd erupted into applause as Kevin Fiege, president of Marvel Studios and films including Thor, Captain America and Iron Man took to the stage to talk about the new Thor movie.

Suddenly, the power went off and a voice was heard. “Humanity, look how you’ve fallen, waiting all day in the sweltering head hidden in the dark”. A flash of lightening and out onto the stage comes Tom Hiddleston dressed in full Loki costume, to thunderous applause.

I am Loki of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose. Stand back you mewling quim! The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life’s joy in a mad scramble for a place in this chamber, this miserly palace of Midgard, the meagre place they call Hall H. You should have let me rule you when you had the chance. Yet here you are! Kneel! Your ears yearn for untold stories. Your eyes crave unseen sights. Your imaginations ache and hunger. Where are your Avengers now? Claim loyalty to me and I will give you what you need. Say my name! It seems I have an army. Feast your eyes!” The clips were then shown.

“It was a hoot” Hiddleston said as he recalled afterwards. Upon being asked how the whole Hall H thing came about, he replied “Kevin(Fiege) called me up about two and a half weeks ago and says so I have this idea and I was like okay. I got very excited about it. I wanted to make sure we did it right. I mean, it was important to me to stay true to the character because I didn’t want to kind of slip into self parody or something. I really wanted it to be an authentic thing. But in the end it was all just the thought of it, coming out and sort of saying Thank you to the fans in that way was thrilling and was honestly one of the most exciting buzzes of my life.

Of course, the internet exploded with the new footage, allowing more reason for The Hiddlestoners (fans of Mr Hiddleston) to love him. If that wasn’t enough of Tom for one day, fans were treated to another two appearances from him yesterday (Sunday).

Not only that, and if he wasn’t already cool enough, he even sang and danced along to Daft PunksGet Luckyto which he changed the words toGet Loki`. Tom also read a age from Coriolanus (who he is going to be starring as on stage at the Donmar Warehouse in London from December to February) from a copy of the book he got handed.

To finish the day, and indeed Comic Con for another year, Hiddleston appeared at a Q&A session with fellow Thor: The Dark World, co star, Zachary Levi to help raise money for Operation Smile, a charity run by Zach and Nerd Machine.

Before he went on, he spoke to one of the of Nerd Machine about being the secret guest for the Q&A. When asked why are you gracing us with your presence, the English actor replied “Because I really want to do it. Zach talked about it way back when we were making Thor: The Dark World and basically said if you’re coming to comic con, pop by Nerd HQ. Then I was kind of on a stealth mission for Marvel because I turned up in Hall H in full Loki character yesterday and the idea was that it had to be a super super surprise so I had to kind of come in. I was cooped up in my hotel yesterday, like Julian Nisuache and I came with a Django mask from a costume shop from London because I was trying not to be seen in the airport so I wanted it to be a surprise so that’s why you didn’t know I was coming”

He then continued to talk about being recognised, looking like a golden retriever and his dancing skills, before going into the Nerd Machine Q&A to be greeted with yet more applause.

The hour long Q&A session included questions from the audience and a few from Twitter, memorable moments of being threatened to be punched in the dick by Zach aswell as Hiddleston`s famous impressions of Avengers co star, Chris Evans, his velcripator from Jurassic Park and one of Zach Levi.

Hiddleston also spoke about his list of people he wanted to work with and to never be afraid of your ion.

Watch the Q&A below.

The Q&A and him dres as Loki are just two of the many reasons why Hiddleston has such an army of fans and why Comic Con 2013 was one of the best ever!
