Tom Cruise Announces Two More Mission Impossible Films Coming

There’s no bones about it, Mission Impossible: Fallout won not the the critics but the fandom too. Are we surprised about this announcement? No. The star of the franchise Tom Cruise has announced Mission Impossible 7 and 8 are coming. Christopher McQuarrie will direct both.

The film Star revealed the news via his official Twitter . Revealing the news in a teaser video with a caption under it saying… “Summer 2021 and Summer 2022.”

Christopher McQuarrie also announced his return to the franchise via social Media. He wrote: “Missions: Accepted #MissionImpossible.”

He has been working for Cruise for a very long time with Rogue Nation been his other Mission Impossible film. He’s worked with him on Edge Of Tomorrow, Jack Reacher, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Valkyrie, The Mummy. All varying between directing, producing and writing duties, he’s also involved in Top Gun Maverick.

Fallout broke franchise records (and for Cruise), a commercial success and grossed $791 million (£614 million) worldwide. So it’s no surprise Paramount Pictures want to continue Ethan Hunt’s storyline. Cruise stills feels hungry to play the role and perform the stunts. He will be 58 years old by the time the 8th film arrives on 2022.

McQuarrie himself did say he wanted to try something different. Did someone convince him to stay in the franchise or did the success of Fallout help? Whatever his reason he has accepted the mission.

Mission Impossible 7 and 8 will be created for release in the Summer of those years. The biggest challenge will be to keep each film as fresh and exciting. The franchise is now entering those episodes that some will say is the silly films. If they can replicate the success of Fallout, there will be no outcry for Mission Impossible to self destruct.
