Thunderbolts* Described As “A24-Feeling Assassin Movie” By Florence Pugh
Marvel’s movie Thunderbolts* recently had a new trailer drop that highlighted the indie names attached to the project. When talking with Midsommar and Fighting With My Family, mentioned that the movie has an entirely different style from typical MCU fare.
She stated that “It ended up becoming this quite badass indie, A24-feeling assassin movie with Marvel superheroes.”
Pugh will reprise her role as Yelena, sister to Natasha Romanoff, in Thunderbolts* where she will star alongside other MCU veterans such as Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell and Hannah John-Kamen.
The movie is directed by Jake Schrier, who helmed an episode of the recent Star Wars show, Skeleton Crew and previously won an Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series or Anthology for the A24/Netflix series, Beef.
During his interview with Empire, Schrier mentioned that “there’s a certain amount of that Beef tone in it, that does feel different. There’s an emotional darkness that we brought to this that is resonant, but doesn’t come at the expense of comedy.”
The minute-long trailer boasts about its A24 connections with captions such as “From the stars of Midsommar, A Different Man, & You Hurt My Feelings,” “The cinematographer of The Green Knight,” “The editor of Minari,” and “The composers of Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Marvel’s marketing approach for this new movie indicates a bold new tone, which potentially is an attempt to battle the superhero fatigue that some audiences are currently feeling. Especially after the Captain America: Brave New World.
Thunderbolts* is set to hit UK cinemas on 1st May.
