The Toxic Avenger Remake Set For UK Release By Signature Entertainment

After sitting on the shelf for a couple of years due to rights issues and other such things, Macon Blair‘s remake of the comedy/horror The Toxic Avenger is finally seeing the light of day and has secured a distribution deal in the UK (via Screen Daily).
Signature Entertainment, who brought the UK the Terrifier series, amongst other things, has acquired UK-Ireland rights for the remake/reboot, which stars Peter Dinklage as the titular hero with Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Julia Davis and Luisa Guerreiro also part of the cast.
Producers include Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma Entertainment, as well as Alex Garcia and Mary Parent of Legendary Pictures. Blair and Kaufman have written the script alongside Joe Ritter. The film is a remake of the 1984 film, which Kaufman and Herz directed.
In the film, “a shocking accident transforms a downtrodden janitor into a mutant vigilante. Armed with his signature mop, the unlikely hero battles freaks, gangsters and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son.”
“The Toxic Avenger is a perfect example of the type of super entertaining commercial genre movie that we’re always looking for at Signature,” said Signature Entertainment’s acquisitions and development manager Katie Wilkinson-Javes. “Macon Blair’s fresh take on the cult anti-hero radiates pure cinema madness, and we can’t wait to introduce UK and Irish audiences to Peter Dinklage’s Toxic Avenger later this year.”
The film premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023 to audience raves and, after some distribution problems that saw some call it “unreleasable”, we are finally going to get our eyes on what could be one of the year’s best horror films.
The Toxic Avenger is released in UK cinemas on August 29th.
