Cooper Hoffman & David Jonsson Take The Long Walk In First Trailer

Two men battle in a walking contest to survive

Lionsgate has today released the first trailer for their Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk, which opens in cinemas this Autumn.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, he of The Hunger Games and Constantine fame, the film is an adaptation of the novel from legendary author Stephen King and tells of a “dystopian 1979 horror” that was originally published by Richard Bachman, King’s writing pseudonym. The film stars Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza), David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus), and Mark Hamill (Star Wars, The Life of Chuck).

The story focuses on “a dystopian America that is entertained by the Long Walk — a competition in which 50 teenage boys walk without rest. Each competitor must keep walking faster than three miles per hour, continuously — or risk being eliminated. The last boy remaining earns a prize of his choosing.” (from Deadline)

Hoffman plays Raymond Garraty, a young man mourning the death of his father at the hands of an authoritarian government, with Jonsson as his new pal Peter McVries, and Hamill as the Major, who oversees the Long Walk.
Official Synopsis:
From the highly anticipated adaptation of master storyteller Stephen King’s first-written novel, and Francis Lawrence, the visionary director of The Hunger Games franchise films (Catching Fire, Mockingjay – Pts. 1 & 2, and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), comes THE LONG WALK, an intense, chilling, and emotional thriller that challenges audiences to confront a haunting question: how far could you go?
Taking a break from Hunger Games films, Lawrence flexes some other muscles with this one after The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in 2023 and before he begins filming the next prequel, Sunshine of the Reaping, which is due for release in 2026. The Long Walk is written by JT Mollner (Strange Darling) and features Judy Greer, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, and Roman Griffin Davis in the ing cast.

The Long Walk opens in cinemas on September 12th.
