Sunday Short Theatre – 27

Like it or hate it, one day you’ll have to move out of Mum and dads home and start your own nest. In Sunday Short Theatre choice this week, 27 might be the best time to move out.
I think I was 25 when I moved, when I headed to Salford near Manchester for University in 2000. It’s was a scary time as much as it was an exciting time, as I was able to do what I want. But what did I want to do?! The number 27 was the age Alice our character decide it was time to move out. Feeling stuck, unable have type of private life or even an relationship with someone. Escapism comes in the shape of alcohol and in some case something harder like other substances.
This 11 minute animated short film comes from Flóra Anna Buda. It’s inspired very much from her own life experiences, it seems she left her own parents home in her late 20’s. The way world has been, many peoples are not leaving the family nest until there 30’s! Could it be a shape of identity crisis with angst from adolescence and adulthood itself. Our mindset does change sometimes for the good, other times for the worse.
This looks to have a lot of emotions , beguiling and looks a lot of fun. This short film made it’s world premiere at 2023 Cannes Film Festival, winning the Palme d’Or.
Alice lives at her parents’ place at the age of 27 with no private life or a relationship. It takes a bicycle accident and a short coma to make her realize that it’s time to move out.
