Sunday Short Theatre – 轻触(TOUCH)

Let’s get right to the point, life may offer us all the gifts of the world on a plate, life can be hard. Now try live that life you call as a blind man or woman? Living your life in shadows it would be a lonely and you pray for some sort of interaction be it in friendship or something more. In this weeks Sunday Short Theatre, 轻触(Touch) that connection and even identity companionship is even more a priority.
This 12 minute short film is directed by Song Huang which has been inspired by a close friend. A young woman who suddenly lost her eyesight through cancer, The film attempts to share her experience of adapting to a new life. We always hear people say to someone whose suffered a ‘loss’ and we tell “we know how you feel!, do we ? This film maybe give us a better understanding and that company may not always be just for friends, they may want more.
Huang’s film the friend is now male, the film wants to you empathise and appreciate the daily struggles than goes through. Without his phone as magnifier and much more his life would be hellish plus this is a film that looks at intimacy in a digital age.
After recently going blind, a young man struggles to navigate his new life in the shadows. Like any other person on the hunt for human connection he turns to social media and uses his phone’s screen reader function to re-engage with the world. In Touch, Chinese writer and filmmaker Song Huang reimagines this true tale about his friend who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and lost their sight before the age of thirty.
