Sean Gunn Set To Play DC Universe Villain Maxwell Lord

Deadline are reporting James Gunn‘s brother Sean Gunn is set to play DCU Villain Maxwell Lord in Superman Legacy.
The new Superman film that is set for a Summer 2025 release. The film will be one of the first films That James Gunn and Peter Safaran will look after. DC will hope the pair will kick off an new era of consistently strong DCU films to match Marvel.
Sean Gunn is no stranger to both Marvel and DC cinematic Universe. In The Guardians Of The Galaxy he played Kraglin with his character actually becoming part of the ‘new’ Guardians ran by Rocket Racoon. In D.C he was Weasel in the 2021 The Suicide Squad, plus a number of other films and television shows. With Superman: Legacy, we’ll assume it will be a cameo.
Maxwell Lord won’t be a new character to DCU, Pedro Pascal played Lord in Wonder Woman 1984. A nefarious businessman who discovers a relic that gives him the influence and power for his own wishes.
Maxwell Lord debuted in Justice League issue one of the rebooted series back in 1987. He was created by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire. He played a big part in the formation of the Justice League International, becoming a foe rather than ally. He originally was a character who had no power, whom during the Invasion period would gain powers of mind control.
There is no word that Maxwell Lord will be the new film’s main villain or simply a cameo. Regardless of how big or small the part will be, it will open the door for the character to appear in other DC films and shows.
Superman: Legacy is set for a 2025 release date.
