Production Begins On Avatar Sequels As ‘Next Generation’ Cast Is Revealed

Love or hate them the Avatar sequels are coming and Monday (25th September) the first of the four sequels started production. 20th Century Fox Pictures are celebrating the occasion by revealing the ‘next generation’, the young cast who’ll star in those movies.

They will Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana who plays Jake Sully and Neytiri with some of the kids playing their offspring. The other kids on the show are from another Navi’Clan, the Metkayina, who are led by Tonowari, played by Cliff Curtis from The Fear Of The Walking Dead. There is one exception Jack Champion who is playing Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teenager, born at Hell’s Gate but prefers his time in the Pandoran rainforest more than the asphalt of Hell’s Gate.

Whilst the original 2009 movie was a gamechanger not just in visual effects but also gave cinephiles a new option 3D to watch at cinemas. We don’t have to tell you our thoughts on 3D, but rightly so the movie was subject to much criticism. Thanks to this movie the last few years we’ve been subjected to poor or meaningless 3D movies which cemented 3D as a ‘gimmick’. Producer Jon Landau did state Avatar 2 3D will silence doubters and 3D will be back in fashion.

Landau also told EW his thoughts on the Youthful cast “We never had this youthful element before, and that brings a different kind of energy to the film,” he says. “They represent the future generation of Pandora and play a very significant role — not just in this movie but throughout all the movies.”

Avatar 2 is set for a December 2020 release date.
