Nicolas Cage Fronts Aussie Beach Psychological Thriller In ‘The Surfer’ Trailer

The (US) trailer has been released for The Surfer, starring Nicolas Cage (Longlegs).

This film sees a man (Cage) bring his teenage son (Finn Little) to the Australian beach where he was raised but is turned away. It starts a turf war against the locals with rising tension that pushes the man to his breaking point. The Surfer dives more into the psychological thriller, will we get some ‘Cage Rage’ in this one?

This film marks Irish filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan’s fourth film, following the 2016 supernatural horror Without Name; Nocebo which starred Eva Green and Mark Strong.

Alexander Bertrand, Julian McMahon, and Nic Cassim star alongside Cage, who also produces the film.

In Finnegan’s fourth feature, a man returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son only to realise that he is not welcome in what used to be his home. He is not even a guest but an intruder. This unnamed man (Nicolas Cage) is humiliated by a group of powerful locals and drawn into a conflict that rises with the punishing heat of the summer.

The Surfer will play at the Glasgow Film Festival from 1st and 2nd March [More info]. Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions will release the film May 2nd, with. Vertigo Releasing releasing it in UK and Irish cinemas in May also.
