Netflix To Cancel Marvel’s Daredevil After Three Seasons

Marvel‘s tenure on Netflix is slowly falling apart as the streaming giants cancel Daredevil. After three solid seasons, Hell’s Kitchen vigilante Lawyer is no more. The news comes on the back of Iron Fist and Luke Cage cancellations last month.
Deadline broke the news about the cancellation, the show that kicked off Marvel universe on the streaming channel. Heres a statement they received from Netflix stating the character has a life elsewhere…
“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and an incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have ed the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”
Daredevil was considered by some as the strongest of all the Marvel Universe shows. It seems a bittersweet pill for fans of the show and showrunner Erik Oleson already pitched Season Four idea weeks before the cancellation.
This news leaves only two Marvel Universe shows, Jessica Jones and The Punisher. Both have new seasons coming on Netflix with The Punisher coming early 2019 with Jessica Jones still in production. With now three of the five shows now cancelled, the future doesn’t look great for those remaining shows. Could life for Daredevil be now appearing in those shows or could it be Disney’s new streaming service?
With likes Loki and The Scarlett Witch shows possibly lined up for Disney+, could the cancelled shows be heading to that platform? Possibly, however, the expense of making Marvel shows is very high. Marvel will be looking to have all their shows and films in one place especially as Disney will be a big competitor to Netflix.
It’s easy to speculate the true reasons or who to blame for Daredevil cancellation. We don’t really know or we’ll never learn why, but we must Netflix and Marvel deal was five years ago. No one said it was forever.
