Netflix Release Trailer For Refugee Drama The Swimmers

Ahead of its World Premiere as the opening night film at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival, Netflix today unveil the official teaser trailer for The Swimmers.
The film is directed by Sally El Hosaini and based on the incredible true story of two young sisters who inspired the world. The Issa Sisters are played by Yusra Mardini (Nathalie Issa) and Sara Mardini (Manal Issa). From war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics, two young sisters embark on a harrowing journey as refugees, putting both their hearts and champion swimming skills to heroic use.
This will be a film that will play like a rollercoaster of emotions. From the harrowing struggles trying to live some sort of normal life. To fleeing their homeland to the tough regime to becoming Olympic swimmers. This teaser sells the film really well…
The Swimmers tells the true story of swimming sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini’s miraculous journey as refugees from war-torn Syria, all the way to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The film is helmed by Welsh Egyptian director/writer, Sally El Hosaini, whose last film My Brother the Devil (2013) premiered at Sundance Film Festival winning the World Cinema Cinematography: Dramatic prize before securing El Hosaini the Best British Newcomer prize at the BFI London Film Festival and Best European Film at Berlinale.
The roles of Yusra and Sarah Mardini are played by Lebanese actresses and real life sisters, Manal and Nathalie Issa.
The film also stars Matthias Schweighöfer, Ahmed Malek, James Krishna Floyd, Nahel Tzegai, with Kinda Alloush and Ali Suliman.
The Swimmers will first make it’s premiere at Toronto Film Festival next week. Today we learned it will also play the 66th BFI London Film Festival on 9th and 10th October. Before getting a limited UK and Irish cinema release in November, Netflix debut on 23rd November.
