My God Jim! Watch Star Trek Into Darkness Announcement Trailer

Is he Khan? Star Trek Into Darkness

Next Summer the Starship Enterprise will finally JJ Abrams take us back to the final frontier when the long awaited Star Trek 2 aka Star Trek Into Darkness and the first teaser has arrived! Well it’s not actually a full trailer as that will be coming on 17th December , this is actually an announcement trailer but we can understand that the focus is on the 9 minute prologue been shown at Imax previews of the Hobbit from Next Thursday (UK, 13th December) who’ll get the trailer too so fair enough. However as it’s been near impossible to get any news on this long awaited sequel it’s just fantastic to finally see some footage!

This looks impressive indeed, the days of 1960’s campness have finally gone, everything now looks leaner, meaner, grittier I’m sure even Gene Rodenberry would be proud of what JJ Abrams has achieved. When the first poster was released the immediate reaction was the styling is very Dark Knight Rises and Keeping with Nolan them the audible side of this trailer it has a Inception feel to it! Call it a rip off or not you could say its the major impact Christopher Nolan has had on the industry on of creating and marketing a blockbuster film.

So who is Benedict Cumberbatch ? Khan? Gary Mitchell? Someone else? The British actor himself has called him ‘iconic’  whoever he is we do get a glimpse of his destructive force he want’s his vengeance. A slightly extended Japanese version of the trailer (see below) could suggest he maybe Khan as there is an re-enactment of a scene with Kirk and Spock from the 1982 film, mmmm!

Star Trek Into Darkness stars  Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film will transport into cinemas nationwide from 17th May 2013.
