Synopsis

Mirai Nikki: Future Diary is set in a modern day to day world, nothing really out of the ordinary in the world. We follow Yukiteru “Yuki” Amano as he discovers that, one day, all of a sudden, his phone has the ability to predict the future. However he isn’t the only one with that ability, there are eleven others; bestowed by the God of Time and Space: Deus Ex Machina.
With granting these twelve the ability to peek into the future there is a catch: A battle royale, last man standing survival game.

Review

Future Diary peaked my interest early on, almost at the very beginning.
Following Yuki Amano has he discovers this power to see into the future; a power that I personally would love. The show twists and turns like a twisty turny thing, so you end up not being able to guess what is going to happen next — although it didn’t stop me from trying! — It did put me on the edge of my seat, which has been slightly rare for Anime releases this year.
If you are into the whole blood and guts battle royale mixed with real world consequences then you are in for a treat. Brilliant series can’t wait to get started on the next season.

Animation

The animation studio is Asread, they haven’t done much but the animation style looks similar to Dean Wonderland, or if you like a cross between Another and Desert Punk.
Good animation and very fitting for the anime; doesn’t pull away from the genre.

Story

Story is good and very engaging, leaves us on the edge of our seats thinking what’s going to happen next, and how the hell are they going to deal with the situations that they are in.
There are thirteen episodes altogether which keep it nice and tidy, making it not drawn out.

Characters

The characters are good, we have the classic introvert shut in, who can’t seem to make friends very well and keeps to himself and he becomes the main protagonist, along with a girl who has a few screws loose. Very entertaining and develops neatly throughout the course of the anime, there aren’t whole episodes dedicated to character development which is rather good and keeps the rhythm going.
Another full star.

Fighting

The fighting is bloody and gritty. I enjoy a good action scene, and these don’t disappoint. Many of them are short lived too so again, it isn’t drawn out and we can move on with the plot. Which is, as engaging, as the fights, if not more. It is bloody horrific and those with a nervous disposition may need to cringe a few times during to get ed it all.

Extras

As for our extras (yes I’m aware that it is extremely difficult to obtain licensing for extras too, but, if I’m buying a Blu Ray, I’m looking for some extra bits too, I’m sure most of us would agree with that.) We have our clean opening and closing.. That’s all folks.
I’d be very generous with a half star, so, I’m not even awarding that to it.

It is rated 15UK — I agree with the rating, but could be slightly higher; there are a few Fan Service scenes, not too many mind you. There’s a few bits of graphic violence, gun use and the like.

General Price is about £25 or €30.
