Maya Hawke s the new Hunger Games: Sunshine of the Reaping

The cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping film is growing ever larger with news that two more actors have been signed up this week.

Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) and Lili Taylor (The Conjuring) are the newest additions to the cast, with Hawke set to play Wiress, a Hunger Games District 3 champion who is now a District 12 mentor. Taylor will play Mags, previously portrayed by Lynn Cohen in “Catching Fire,” who is also a former Hunger Games champion-turned-District 12 mentor.

They the cast that already includes  Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak, who respectively play Haymitch Abernathy and Lenore Dove Baird. Others set include Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, who was announced earlier this week. 

The book, by Suzanne Collins, opens with the young Plutarch Heavensbee in District 12, capturing the reaping of the Tributes there. Published on March 18, the novel revisits the world of Panem 24 years before the events of “The Hunger Games,” starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.”

Francis Lawrence, who has directed all but the original film, will be back to direct with Billy Ray returning on scripting duties.

Rumours continue to swell that names such as Ralph Fiennes, Emma Thompson, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning and Glenn Close may also be part of the film, but rumours they are just now.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is set for cinemas on November 20th, 2026.
