Long Shelved Kung Fury 2 Gets Light At End Of Tunnel Thanks To Leaked Footage

Michael Fassbender in Kung Fury 2 (The Movie)

The first look at the long-shelves/delayed film Kung Fury 2, from Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg, has been given a little light at the end of the tunnel after footage from the film leaked this weekend.

First announced over seven years, the film was shot and finished in 2019 but has been stuck in limbo since then (“Legal Limbo” Sandberg called it) and shows no signs of being released due to the problems – but, after seeing this footage, the legal waffle needs sorting so we can set out eyes on this cult classic in the making.

Sandberg managed to get Michael Fassbender, Alexandra Shipp, David Hasselhoff and action legend Arnold Schwarzenegger to be part of the film, and the leaked 10-minute footage, which is more of a sizzle reel for the film, shows that it could be a real blast. Dinosaurs, Hitler, Robots, time-travel, Kung Fu, Thunder Cops?! What’s not to love??

In 2020, post-production work stopped due to a lawsuit between the producers and the film’s Chinese investors, Creasun Media. Later that year, a lawsuit was filed against Creasun Entertainment USA (the LA arm of Creasun Media), accusing it of not paying $10 million that it promised, effectively shutting down the production. However, there has been little movement on the project since then, hence the film hasn’t been able to be released or see the light of day until this recent footage leak.

“This was an internal promo video that was never supposed to be seen by the public. I feel bad because it contains a bunch of plot points and temp VFX,” Sandberg told Variety in a statement. “I hope at least people can see the ion that we poured into the movie, the world deserves to see it as it was meant to be seen. This movie has been held hostage for the past 5 years, but I promise to keep fighting for it and make sure this film gets the chance it truly deserves.”

You can watch the footage here. Let’s hope the legal stuff gets sorted one day so we can see the epic comedy in its entirety.
