LIFF 2013-Confront Your Past Watch UK Trailer For The Railway Man

Battle your demons confront your past as Colin Firth faces ‘the mark’ in the harrowing first UK trailer for post war drama The Railway Man, does time heal those wounds?
Based on the popular Jonathan Teplitzky’s biographical novel The Railway man stars Colin Firth as Eric Lomax a former British World War 2 POW who was captured by the Japanese when Singapore surrendered. Sent to a Japanese Labour camp Eric was tormented but years later he discovers the officer who tormented him is still alive and decides to confront his part and meet his tormentor face on.
Recently made it’s world premier at Toronto Film Festival The buzz from The Railway Man seems to be very disappointing, a film with Oscar winning and nominated actors amongst it’s cast. Whilst the acting from the cast is strong it seems the structure of the film is where things are let down. The film is split into 2 parts with the strongest part been the longer section looking back at Lomax’s POW days (played by Jeremy Irvine) however according to early reviews its not enough to save the film dramatic elements. This UK trailer is very compelling , showcases the film’s beautiful cinematography possibly also spoiled by showing too much of the plot.
The Railway Man also stars Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada with the film been released in UK&Ireland on 3rd January 2014 (no USA release set yet). The film will make it’ s UK premier at London Film Festival in October.
Synopsis
Based on his best-selling memoir, The Railway Man tells the extraordinary and epic true story of Eric Lomax, a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II. Decades later, Lomax discovers that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him, and his haunting past. Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, and starring Academy Award-winner Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine, and Academy Award-winner Nicole Kidman, the film is a powerful tale of survival, love and redemption.
