John Wick Returns For A Fifth Film; Franchise Expands With More Spin-Offs

Keanu Reeves to return as John Wick once more

“Yeah, we’re thinking he is back!” – To paraphrase the great assassin, it seems he is coming back once more as the John Wick franchise expands, with Lionsgate announcing their plans at CinemaCon this week.

They began by showing some more footage for their spin-off Ballerina, which stars Ana de Armas as well as Keanu Reeves as Wick, before Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson confirmed that John Wick: Chapter 5 is officially a-go with Reeves and director Chad Stahelski returning for the new film, as will producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.

Fogelson alluded to the team cracking a story for the fifth one, adding:

“Keanu, Chad, Basil, and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world. We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.”

Iwanyk and Lee also gave a t statement saying: “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”

Adding the to franchise, there will be a “Caine” spin-off film starring and directed by Donnie Yen that will be “akin” to Yen’s previous action films in Hong Kong; and, and animated anime film will also be released, which will act as a John Wick prequel, following him as he kills all of his rivals in one night to free himself from the High Table. Reeves will voice Wick for the film.

The franchise has become a huge global success, with over $1billion grossed worldwide over the four films thus far, with John Wick: Chapter 4 the biggest of all, grossing over $440million globally.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, the next film in the series, opens on June 6th.
