Interview – Timo Tjahjanto discusses action epic The Shadow Strays

The Shadow Strays

Unbelievably whilst covering the Toronto International Film Festival I had the greatest honour and pleasure to sit down with Timo Tjahjanto for an interview to discuss his latest Netflix film The Shadow Strays, just hours before the World Premiere at the Royal Alexandria Theatre. The film played as part of the Midnight Madness strand of TIFF.

Even if you have not seen Timo’s other films you have definitely heard of them. His other action films include the hit Netflix films The Night Comes for Us and The Big Four as well as the film Headshot. To his horror films like Killers, and Macabre, he was also directing the Segments Safe Haven in V/H/S/2 and The Subject in V/H/S/94. In my opinion, though The Shadow Strays is his best film yet.

We discuss what it means to have his film debut at TIFF and during the Midnight Madness strand, The approach he takes when directing action, to having female leads and dealing with issues that women deal with, and his view on blood and violence.

It was a fascinating discussion with hopefully Hollywood’s next big action director as Timo Tjahjanto’s next project will be the sequel to the incredible hit action film Nobody.

After nearly botching a mission, Codename 13, a prodigal assassin found herself suspended from further duties. The killer teen meets Monji, a young boy who lost his mother to a crime syndicate. When Monji disappeared, 13 turned on setting a path of destruction to find her only friend… even at the cost of defying her mentor and the organization she belongs to; The Shadows.
Please note this interview is audio only.
The Shadow Strays will be available to stream on Netflix from the 17th October.
