Hunter Schafer eyed for The Legend of Zelda film

After many years of trying and failing to make it to the big screen, word is that a live-action The Legend of Zelda film might be closer than we think with rumours swirling about a possible candidate for the lead role.

The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is reportedly the lead candidate to take on the titular role of Princess Zelda in the film, according to industry insider Daniel Richtman.

Back in 2023, when rumours first swirled about Schafer’s name linked to the role, the actor said she would not be opposed to taking on the role if offered, telling Variety:

“That would be so cool… I love the game, personally. I played it as a kid, and I still play it now. Who knows! That would be pretty cool.

Earlier this year, it was reported that work on the film adaptation is well underway, with The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball helming, and will be produced by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto

Schafer is currently in production on the anticipated third season of Euphoria alongside Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney and more. Most recently, she has starred in Cuckoo with Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick; Kinds of Kindness with Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Joe Alwyn and Hong Chau; and Jesse Plemons.
She will next be seen in David Lowery’s Mother Mary alongside Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, and Blade Runner 2099, the new television series sequel based on Ridley Scott’s original film, and co-stars alongside Oscar Winner Michelle Yeoh.

The Legend of Zelda is currently scheduled for release on March 26th, 2027.
