First Full Length Trailer For Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master

After 2 teaser clips from the highly anticipated film, finally the first full length trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master has finally arrived. PT Anderson is a little bit like Terrence Malick, he doesn’t make many films but when he makes them there so widely received dramatic, tension driven so much style and panache it’s no wonder their Oscar bait films. On evidence of the previous clips and this new trailer this looks like one of the big hitters for the 2012 cinematic calender.
Philip Seymour Hoffman plays Lancaster Dodd a World War 2 veteran who is haunted by his experiences who decides to start his own religion in the 1950′s a Hopelessly Inquisitive man, who manipulates A young drifter Freddie (Joaquin Phoenix) to him. Freddie becomes Lancaster’s right hand man however as times goes by and the faith gathers a big following, Freddie starts to question that faith and the man he calls his mentor.
Whilstthe second the charisma of Lancaster the new trailer gives you a better understanding of the film’s story. You can see why Freddie was so easily led by Lancaster who offers him some purpose in life showing the sinister undertones of this religion and I may not be a fan of Scientology this trailer may question if The Master is based on L Ron Hubbard’s ‘cult’ religion. I’m not a fan of There May Be Blood (though I don’t hate it, it was ok) The Master looks a superb film and the performances of the films 3 main stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams (who plays Dodd’s wife Mary Sue) are the main attraction for me.
It’s so good to see Phoenix finally getting himself back in track after several years in limbo. Still a a few months to go until we see this one, November 9th in UK&Ireland (October 12th USA). The film also stars Laura Dern, David Warshofsky, Rami Malek, Jesse Plemons, Madisen Beaty, Joshua Close and Fiona Dourif.
