As Netflix’s Stranger Things prepares for its highly anticipated final season, Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, has opened up about what it means to say goodbye to the series that catapulted him to fame. Speaking to Variety during a recent interview about his new film The Legend of Ochi, premiering at Sundance, Wolfhard shared his thoughts on wrapping up nearly a decade spent in the world of Hawkins.

For the 21-year-old actor, the experience of filming the final season was both intense and deeply emotional. “It was incredibly emotional, obviously,” Wolfhard said.

“It’s the last 10 years of my life. Also, for the creators, the Duffer Bros. started when they were 30 and now they are 40. Everyone had a long journey and shared it together. My whole childhood was there. It was sort of the Toy Story 3 moment of leaving your toys behind. It was really special.”

Wolfhard described the year-long production process for Season 5 as reminiscent of the epic shoots for The Lord of the Rings, emphasizing the scale and intensity of the final chapter. Despite the challenges, he feels the series couldn’t have ended on a better note. “I feel like it couldn’t have ended better,” he added.

Reflecting on the post-Stranger Things chapter of his career, Wolfhard expressed excitement for new opportunities, including promoting his latest project, The Legend of Ochi. “It feels like post-graduation or something. I am excited for everything to come out,” he said.

The final season of Stranger Things will reunite fans with familiar faces, including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, and more. The series, which has broken multiple Netflix records, continues to be a cultural phenomenon, with Season 4 setting a viewership milestone of over 287 million hours watched in one week.

Stranger Things: Season Five is set to debut this summer of Netflix.
