Film Review – Freud’s Last Session (2023)

Freud’s Last Session is an interesting film. It stars the ever-so-reliable Anthony Hopkins who loves the role and is so protective of it and takes complete ownership. Matthew Goode co-stars and he is up to the challenge playing C S Lewis. Both roles are extremely complex and part of the reason is their complex minds are at first somewhat opposed to each other but they have enormous respect. It is difficult to imagine how the two come to with each other but they do it with a great deal with the help of a screenplay that uses its arguments wisely,
I watched this film and discovered a different Freud to the one I imagined-he was by all s a very strong character and he was extremely controlling of Anna Freud who by all s was devoted to her father but in the end, she was not only came out in the sense she acknowledged her sexuality but also found herself able to deal with her father. But, by the end of the film, I began to understand the message of the film. Freud simply did not like homosexuality and he blamed himself for the way she turned- after finding herself having to make a commitment outside of her family.
Although this cannot be considered a “blockbuster” it was a film to be seen and although I would wonder why this would be considered main stage-to be brutally honest this is a film to see everything laid out so clearly shows that audiences like to be their own judges. I can see all too clearly why this is important to us what is happening today also happened before and will certainly happen again and we can but hope that in the future we will learn to respect each other more.
All everyone wants are films which show us the moment that we sit up and take notice of the situation we are now in and hopefully like this we will be better do with the main stage of events as it has to mean that the better option will be taken. I like to think this as a course of socially awkward cinema will get the better. We need to go forward so that with films like this, we are able to deal with the bad and the good times. I will see Freud’s Last Session again and hope new audiences will watch it at least once.
