Eddard ‘Ned’ Stark / Sean Bean
Sean Bean is one of Britain’s bad boy actors who is most famous for his villainous roles in films such as The Patriot, Golden Eye and more recently The Island. In Game of Thrones, Bean plays the handsome Eddard Stark, who fans will know as Ned, an extremely strong and masculine character. Also known as Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North, he is a commander and dangerous warrior with a strong sense of honour and duty. A few people would describe Sean Bean as a little bit of a ladies’ man in real life, but on-screen his character Ned Stark is a devoted husband to Catelyn Stark.
Jon Snow / Kit Harington
Jon Snow, played by new-kid-on-the-block Kit Harrington, is one of the younger characters in Game of Thrones. Graduating in 2008, the gorgeous Kit Harrington had only performed in theatre shows such as War Horse and Posh before landing the part as Jon in Game of Thrones. Jon is a bi-product of Ned Stark’s infidelity and never actually finds who his real mother is, but faces constant resentment from Ned’s wife Catelyn. Similar in looks to his father, he is lean and dark-haired; however, Jon is an outsider from his family as he struggles with the inner turmoil of being an illegitimate child. He later s The Wall where he is accepted regardless of his family history.
Khal Drogo / Jason Momoa
Khal Drogo, known as Drogo, is a powerful warlord of the Dothraki, the famed nomadic horse-lords of the eastern continent beyond the Narrow Sea. He is a fierce, savage and sexy character. Once described as one of the finest killers alive, his long hair is there to prove that he has never been defeated in battle. Desiring the most attractive women in the world to be his wife, he eventually marries Daenerys, a beautiful blonde, daughter of King Aerys II and Queen Rhaella Targryen. Daenrary’s brother, Viserys, expects Krogo to provide him with an army to recapture the Seven Kingdoms. Jason Momoa, who plays Drogo, has also starred in the popular TV series Stargate: Atlantis and also recently played Conan in Conan the Barbarian.
Viserys Targaryen / Harry Lloyd
Younger son of King Aerys II Targaryen and Rhaella Targaryen. The character styles himself as Viserys III, King of the Seven Kingdoms.
Viserys was evacuated from King’s Landing to the ancient family seat at Dragonstone, shortly before the city fell to Lord Tywin Lannister. From there, Ser Willem Darry was able to secretly remove him and his new-born sister, Daenerys, to the Free City of Braavos, across the Narrow Sea. They lived there until Ser Willem died. After that, he and Daenerys wandered many lands before ending up in Pentos. He had very little money and was forced to sell away many family treasures, including his mother’s crown, and became known as the “Beggar King.”
In Pentos, Viserys and Daenerys were taken in by Illyrio Mopatis, who brokered a marriage for Daenerys to the powerful horse lord Khal Drogo in exchange for a promise of ten thousand Dothraki warriors to retake the Seven Kingdoms.
Robb Stark / Richard Madden
Robb is a striking figure with his lustrous brown hair and piercing blue eyes. King of the North, Robb is head of House Stark and leads the rebellion against Joffrey Baratheon, who arranged the execution of Robb’s father, Lord Eddard Stark. As the eldest child, Robb has two younger brothers, Bran and Rickon, and two sisters, Sansa and Arya. Robb, also, has a strong bond with his half-brother, Jon Snow.
Trained as a young boy in weaponry, Robb has a strong, muscular physique that receives much attention from the show’s women. The heartthrob owns a direwolf named Grey Wind, which is an intelligent and vicious breed of wolf.
Game of Thrones: Season One is released on Blu-ray and DVD on 5th March 2012
