DiCaprio Reborn As The Revenant Scoops Up 12 Oscar Nominations

The awards season has been a mixed bag of emotions with few delights, some expected nominees snubbed, however The Revenant scoops 12 nominations as the 88th Academy Awards announce it’s nominees. Could 2016 finally be the year Leonardo DiCaprio finally grabs himself a golden statue for best actor, when you see the nominees it might just be his year!
Scooping up 12 nominations for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s grim wilderness drama, including noms for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best ing Actor, and Best Film Editing.Could Iñárritu make it 2 in a row after Birdman?Best chances lie to his regular Oscar winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki who won the double last year with Birdman and Ida looks odds on for another statue this year. As for the burning question will DiCaprio finally win that elusive prize?
His competiton is coming from the likes of Michael Fassbender for The Danish Girl is an ok film but compared to The Theory of Everything it’s average but with great performance, a shame as Lily Ebbe’s story deserved a stronger story.
The Revenant’s closest rival in challenging for the statues is Mad Max: Fury Road with 10 noms finally highlighting the academy jury do think outside the box when picking the nominees. The Martian, Brooklyn, Room, Big Short, Bridge Of Spies make of the rest of the Best Feature Film however the big shock is the omission of Todd Haynes Carol. But looking at the early awards this comes to no surprise its not up for best film however Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara up for best Actress/ing actress.
Below is the full list of nominations, and you can find out on 28th February at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with the master of the ceremony duties courtesy of Chris Rock.
