John Cena in The Independent out on Sky Cinema, 24th February

John Cena for president might sound ridiculous, it could happen in political thriller The Independent. Ahead of it’s UK release on Sky Cinema, Sky have unveiled the film’s official Trailer.

Jodie Turner-Smith and Brian Cox also star in a nail-biting tale of political skulduggery and the race to expose corruption at the highest level of US politics.

It can be ‘mission impossible’ trying to understand the basics of American politics. It’ a complexed affair and in this one, a big conspiracy is revealed. Someone is ‘lying’ in the race to be the next president. Will the public go for the first female president (Anne Dowd), or first viable independent candidate (Cena)? When a young reporter (Turner-Smith) uncovers a financial conspiracy that puts democracy and the election into a crisis.


It’s the final weeks of the most consequential presidential election campaign in US history. America is poised to elect either its first female president (Ann Dowd) or finally break the country’s two-party gridlock with its first viable independent candidate (John Cena). Reporting history as it’s made, an idealistic young journalist (Jodie Turner-Smith) gets an opportunity to work with her idol, veteran Washington political columnist Nick Booker (Brian Cox). Eli is pursuing a story about budget cuts and by following the money she and Booker uncover a financial conspiracy that places the fate of the election, the country, and democracy in their hands.

The film also stars Luke Kirby, Stephen Lang, Margaret Odette, Michael Gandolfini, Alysia Reiner, and Imani Love. The Independent will be released in the UK and Ireland on Sky Cinema and streaming service NOW from 24th February.
