Damien Chazelle, the acclaimed director of WhiplashLa La Land and Babylon, is accustomed to attracting strong casts. If rumours are to be believed, his new movie will be fronted by two of the biggest A-listers in town.

Chazelle will write the script and will also be producing alongside Olivia Hamilton under their Wild Chickens Productions banner. The director was rumoured to be making an Evel Knievel biopic with Leonardo DiCaprio but that appears to have been nixed.

Both of Chazelle’s musically-inclined pictures, Whiplash and La La Land, are acclaimed as contemporary classics while Hollywood studio epic Babylon divided critics over its length and graphic content. In-between, Chazelle made the well-regarded moon landing drama First Man with Ryan Gosling who also starred in La La Land.

Even though Chazelle scooped the Best Director Oscar for La La Land, the Best Picture trophy went to Moonlight in a moment of infamous Oscars confusion. Should Murphy and Craig sign on, this will become a hot ticket: Murphy won an Oscar for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer while Craig finds himself in the fruitful post-James Bond period of his acting career.

Murphy will next be seen in the Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man. Craig will be returning to the role of detective Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Both films are Netflix projects and due for release in 2025. The release date of Damien Chazelle’s movie is currently unknown.
