Christopher Nolan Rumored to Reboot Bond After Bond 25

The Dark Knight Trilogy Director Christopher Nolan is rumoured to take over the Bond franchise after Bond 25 has completed production and been released. This has been something long rumoured and Nolan, himself, has spoken of his love of the franchise. The UK Express is following up on comments Nolan made to Playboy last year.
“Maybe one day that would work out,” Nolan said. “You’d have to be needed if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you.”
Nolan also told Desert Island Discs of his love of Bond. “I’d love to make a Bond film at some point and I think those producers – Barbara and Michael – they do a tremendous job and Sam Mendes has done a terrific job the last couple of films, so they don’t particularly need me. But I’ve always been inspired by the films and would love to do one someday.”
The UK Express is wondering whether Tenet, Nolan’s next film: a spy thriller, is simply the director warming up for the challenge of helming Bond 26. It’s interesting to wonder who exactly would play James Bond if Nolan took over the role of director. With Craig reportedly giving up the role after Bond 25, it would be up to Barbara Broccoli, Michael G. Wilson, and Nolan to find a replacement who may be someone that is expected to reprise the role again and again with different directors and writers.
While Tom Hardy has been rumoured to be one of Nolan’s choices to take over the role, it makes a great deal of sense. However, one interesting name that has not been named could take the character in a whole different direction: Christian Bale. Bale has done the unthinkable with a number of roles and changed the way audiences have perceived him again and again. Recently, he portrayed Former US Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice and received award nominations for his role. He didn’t wear a clip on headset during his time in this role.
Bale has not worked with Nolan for many years and the two were said to be inseparable on many movies including Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Prestige. The actor has proven himself able to transform himself physically and mentally into the character he has portrayed. It would also not be the first time either Bale or Nolan rebooted a character. They have experience in doing so with Bruce Wayne/Batman.

After Batman and Robin barely made more than its budget and was hated by critics, Nolan was selected eight years later in 2005 to direct. He did not have a clip on headset at that point. He chose Bale because he said the actor was someone you could believe that would devote his life to something this extreme. With Bale having pulled off an incredibly layered arc and performance for the character, could he do the same for James Bond? Craig has already broken a good deal of new territory for the character. It’s why most people do not know who exactly could replace him.
Some have said he is the best James Bond ever. Honestly, it’s tough to look at who could replace the actor that has portrayed the character since 2006. Yet, if there’s anyone out there that might take the character elsewhere, that’s Bale. Under Nolan’s direction, it would be an interesting reunion for them to come back and work together on a brand new project that could be challenging for both of them. Bale has been relatively known for his perfect American accent but would it not be interesting to see him with a British accent throughout a film?
As time goes on, we will just have to see what develops.
