When it comes to all singing, all dancing actors, screen legend Gene Kelly was one of the finest. When it comes to comic book films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe variety Chris Evans is one of the most popular actors. It seems Evans is ready to replace the shield with tap shoes to star as Kelly in untitled film.
Deadline broke the news that they are still calling ‘rumours’. This project is based on an concept idea by Evans himself which finds us in 1952. What we know is we follow a 12 year old boy who works at MGM Studios Lot. He suddenly begins a imaginary friendship with the actor, whilst he’s working on his next film.
As well as no film title, the is no studio connected to work on this project. This report also states Evans will also be onboard to produce the film alongside Mark Kassen who previously worked with Evans on 2011 indie Puncture. They will also produce with three-time Academy Award nominee John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator), who is set to write the film’s script. Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s T-Street Productions is possibly onboard the project too.
Gene Kelly was rated one of the greatest male screen legends of Hollywood by the American Film Institute. A man of many talents from dancing to acting to directing starring so many classic films such as American In Paris, On The Town, Hello Dolly and probably most famous of them all Singin’ In The Rain. His dancing skills and acting led to the transformation of the musicals in Hollywood. But did you know he was one of the pioneers that help make Ballet commercially viable.
Musicals certainly made a big impact again on cinemas and the small screen with the likes of West Side Story reboot. Whilst Spielberg’s film maybe underperforming at the box office (Covid-19 probably not helping things) it was still a critical success. It seems this film may not be the only film with a dancing screen legend coming our way soon, when Variety reported Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland could be about to star in a Fred Astaire biopic!.
