Cannes 2012: First Clips For Matthew McConaughey In MUD & Paperboy

Five days time the most prestigious film festival on the film calender Cannes film festival will kick off and one of the busiest actors will be Matthew McConaughey. The resurgent actor has been on a bit of a revival of fortunes since his Lincon Lawyer film from last year has he hasn’t looked back and this year into next year is going to be a very busy time for the actor. Already we know about Killer Joe (opening next month’s Edinburgh Film Festival) which already we’re hearing fantastic things about, we also have Bernie starring Jack Black but at Cannes the actor has two films on offer, MUD and Paperboy.

Below are a 3 clips for those films,  2 from Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) which McConaughey plays a fugitive on the run who creates an unlikely friendship with a 14 year old boy (played by The Tree Of Life’s Tye Sheridan) who helps him escape of an island away from the Bounty hunters, law men on his tail. It looks like Nicholls does carry that un-expectancy that made Take Shelter a great film plus this film does have a great cast of  Reese Witherspoon, Michael Shannon, Sarah Paulson, and Sam Shepard.

The final clip comes from Lee Daniels (Precious) Paperboy which had me thinking in the era “not another video game film” but McConaughey teaming up with Zac Efron the pair playing brothers who head to Florida to investigate the possible wrong conviction of a death row inmate (played by John Cusack). In this clip we see McConaughey’s character Ward James visiting inmate Hillary Van Ritter (Cusack), its a brief one which may not show off much however what is attracting people to this film is the wealth of talent in the cast David Oyewelo, Scott Glen and Nicole Kidman who finally looks like she pulled off a good performance for a change.

No word just yet when bot Mud and The Paperboy may actually be released in UK&Ireland however that may change after Cannes Film Festival which starts 16 May 2012.
