Brie Larson Reflects On Captain Marvel Role In MCU; “It Was A Life Changing Experience”

Brie Larson reflects on Captain Marvel role

Currently doing the rounds on the theatre circuit in the UK, Oscar Winner Brie Larson has been speaking to The Telegraph about her career and her biggest undertaking thus far – playing Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers in the MCU and the changes to her life it has brought.

Larson is playing Elektra in a new West End play currently playing at the Duke Of York’s Theatre, and she was quite candid about taking on the role as the Marvel superhero and being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying:

“I was aware that taking Carol would make me more of a public person than I was before, but I thought that what the film was saying was more important than my fear, and I also thought I trusted myself to know how to manage my life.

It was a life-changing experience. A lot of the characters I play, I’m like ‘thank you, goodbye’ once it’s done. I don’t feel the need to bring them home. With Captain Marvel, most of the things I learnt from her – her agency, her sense of self – I’m keeping. It was great that she could also be this experience for others.”

The first Captain Marvel grossed over $1billion in 2019, but its follow-up, The Marvels, flopped and became the franchise’s lowest-grossing film with only $206million taken worldwide, albeit it was released during the Hollywood Actors Strike. No word yet on whether Larson will be part of any future solo films, or indeed the Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
