After the modest return at the box office for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, David Fincher has been slowly deciding what film will be his next project. With the Girl  who played with fire taking a long time to take shape Fincher has only been directing a few episodes of the Netflix Kevin Spacey drama House Of Cards but now he has a lot of offers on the table with Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea been the project he has been ionately trying to get back to the big screen for the past few years.

Now it looks like there might be some movement on the project as Fincher may have found his leading man, Brad Pitt probably as Sailorman Ned Land (Played by Kirk Douglas in the original). According to Variety whilst Fincher waits on the script for The Girl Who Played With Fire from Steve Zaillian have put a three month on hold on things to see if the filmmaker can get this one off the ground. Disney hasn’t given the green light on the project however this news might be a bit on the light side but what it sort of confirms Disney are not planning to have this film rotting in development hell.

Studios who want big budget blockbusters on the cards will always want big big names to lead the cast and they come no bigger than Brad Pitt.Last year’s news that Pitt wanted to retire from the front of the camera to concentrate behind the camera either as a producer however we will still see him in front of the screen for a few more Currently Killing Me Softly is playing in UK, with 2013 Marc Forster’s World War Z adaptation, Steven McQueen’s Twelve Years a Slave, and Ridley Scott’s The Counselor. If David Fincher and Brad Pitt do work  together again it will be there fourth time with Seven, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button been the other three films.

I have to it 20,000 league under the sea has never been one of my favourite films and I didn’t really care much about the prject especially when MCG been linked with the director’ spot, now with Fincher onboard things have changed. If you have seen the original film from 1954 this film will be shot mostly in CG with of course 3D so this is a big project which someone like Fincher can handle but Pitt teaming with Fincher is more mouth watering than 3D. It’s still early days and not much else is known about the project with Se7en scripter Andrew Kevin Walker re-writing the script which was written first by Scott Z.Burns.
