Blade Runner Goes Anime For Final Blade Runner 2049 Short

In 7 days time Blade Runner 2049 will finally arrive in UK and Irish cinemas.
We don’t have to go into why Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to the cult Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi noir Blade Runner is a must see next month. with several days left before the cinematic release, Sony Pictures have decided to release one final piece of promotion. That new promo comes in the shape of a short film as Blade Runner goes ‘Anime’ created by Watanabe Shinichiro the creator of Cowboy Bebop.
Entitled ‘Black Out 2022‘ the final piece of the short film trilogy jigsaw that teases us with stories that fill the gaps between the original movie and this new one.This short is set 3 years after 2019 when Deckard disappeared with a female replicant. Showing exactly what happened to the human race after the EMP blast and how Replicants started to become more ‘human’. We could say this might be a bit of a spoiler with the new movie, so be wary before you watch.

In 2022, an EMP detonation has caused a global blackout that has massive, destructive implications all over the world. Directed by Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo’s Shinichiro Watanabe, Blade Runner Black Out 2022 is a new and highly-anticipated animated short which serves as a prologue for the feature film Blade Runner 2049.

In Blade Runner 2049 we find ourselves Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
