Austin Butler and Saoirse Ronan in Deep Cuts for Sean Durkin

In a Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) are set to star in Durkin’s new project with A24.

Ronan is on board to produce the film alongside Josh Safdie and Central’s Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush. The novel was published on 25th February this year and is a 2000s-set love story about two music-obsessed twenty-somethings navigating the messy realities of ambition, belonging and adulthood over an era-defining decade.

Sean Durkin is coming off the recent success of his emotionally devastating wrestling drama The Iron Claw, which starred Zac Efron, Harris Dickinson and Jeremy Allen White. Both Butler and Ronan had a busy 2024 with projects such as Masters of the Air, Blitz, The Bikeriders, The Outrun and Dune: Part Two. Butler is currently working with Darren Aronofsky on his new film Caught Stealing.

Deep Cuts is Holly Brickley‘s first novel. She is originally from British Columbia, Canada, and studied at UC Berkeley before receiving an MFA in Fiction at Columbia University. Brickley currently lives with her husband and two daughters in Portland, Oregon. Production on the film adaptation will possibly start later this year, with more updates to follow soon.
