Chow Yun-Fat pointing a gun in Hong Kong classic Hard Boiled

We’ve been waiting a long time and finally Hong Kong cinema fans, Arrow Films is set to re-release  many Hong Kong Classics in the UK!

Shout! Studios picked up the right in the U.S away back in January this year. Arrow  jumped in, picking up the UK rights to 156 films  all from the Golden Princess film library.

The acquisition of these films doesn’t include other non-Hong Kong Asian titles. Arrow are expected to release many of the films  in cinemas along with home entertainment. Whilst the news report doesn’t mention it, we would not be surprised if these films will finding themselves also on Arrow Video Channel.

In the U.S Shout! Studios  will handle the  home entertainment releases along with their streaming service channel.

The films including in the deal all come from the golden age of Hong Kong cinema (1980’s and 1990’s).  Including seminal classics by Tsui Hark. One of the the many titles UK fans will be looking forward will be Hard Boiled and A Better Tomorrow Trilogy. These films originally released by Tartan Video here in the UK and Ireland on DVD. The long awaited potential Blu-Ray, even 4K upgrade could be close to becoming reality.

Other films coming our way will include The Killer, Once A Thief and Bullet In The Head. City On Fire, Prison On Fire , Full , Peace Hotel and All About Ah-Long, all starring Chow Yun-Fat. We also have Tsui Hark’s Peking Opera Blues, Tony Ching’s A Chinese Ghost Story trilogy, Eric Tsang’s Aces Go Places, Andrew Kam and Johnnie To’s The Big Heat and Alex Law’s Now You See It, Now You Don’t.

The likes of Hard Boiled and The Killer will probably get some cinematic re-release. Some of the other films will be getting their first time release in the UK. When can we expect these films? Arrow are expected to release the first wave via Arrow Video label in 2026.
