Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom splashes into Number 1 debut

One thing we’ve learned since we’ started posting the weekly official film chart, the so called ‘bad films’ do better than expected. Just look at DC Studios’ Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which splashes straight in at Number 1 on the Official Film Chart.
Jason Momoa returns in this sequel to 2018’s Aquaman, which sneaks in a Number 1 debut by an eye-watering 400 sales margin, denying Wonka a third consecutive week at the top (2). In the film, Aquaman faces a new foe after Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) seeks revenge for his father’s death, and must team up with his imprisoned brother Orm (Patrick Wilson).
Meanwhile, Disney’s Wish is pushed down one place to Number 3, while Hunger Games prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes leaps up six spots to Number 4.
Former Number 1 Barbie continues its Top 10 streak after climbing two places back into the Top 5 (5) while Oppenheimer holds on to last week’s placing (6). Frightening video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s drops four (7) as does animated musical spectacular Trolls Band Together (8). Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie finishes the week down one place (9).
Finally, underwater disaster film Meg 2: The Trench torpedoes back into the Top 10 this week after soaring 20 places (10).
