Chon directs and also stars next Vikander both play a married couple, Chon is Antonio an Korean-American man adopted brought up in Louisiana. Kathy his wife has a daughter they are trying to make a life for themselves. Things are turned upside down after an confrontation with a police officer see Antonio arrested and threatened with immigration, seeing him fight for his citizenship.

This looks stylishly impressive, though it’s in USA it has an immigration story that could resonate with any country. Reminds us a little of the windrush scandal here in the UK which many folks from the Caribbean invited to live in the UK. 5-6 decades later several generations of families threatened with deportation despite being born or living in the country from a young age. This does look a little more intimate and probably help Chon take the next stup up the filmmakers ladder.

From award-winning writer/director Justin Chon, Blue Bayou is the moving and timely story of a uniquely American family fighting for their future. Antonio LeBlanc (Chon), a Korean adoptee raised in a small town in the Louisiana bayou, is married to the love of his life Kathy (Alicia Vikander) and step-dad to their beloved daughter Jessie. Struggling to make a better life for his family, he must confront the ghosts of his past when he discovers that he could be deported from the only country he has ever called home.

The film also stars Mark O’Brien, and Sydney Kowalske.

Blue Bayou at the moment is only saying ‘Coming Soon’ in the UK and Ireland.
