Interview: Jason Flemyng and Chidi Ajufo on going into action with Jason Statham in “A Working Man”

Think action movies and you inevitably think Jason Statham. Whether he’s meting out justice to bad guys, taking on a mighty shark, or going all-out high octane in the Fast franchise, he always does it his way. There’s nobody quite like him. This week sees the arrival of his latest kick-ass adventure, The Beekeeper director David Ayer and his long-term friend, actor Jason Flemyng.
The film sees his character living a quiet life in the construction business after leaving a decorated military career but when people traffickers kidnap his boss’s daughter, he sets out to bring her home and finds himself immersed in a dark and corrupt world.

We sat down with Jason Flemyng and Chidi Ajufo, both of whom go mano a mano with Statham in the film, to talk about their experiences of working with the star. Basketball player-turned-actor Ajufo talks in the interview below about how Statham was his guide throughout their lengthy fight scene. “He’s very detailed about action scenes – he’s so experienced.” A comparative newcomer to movies, he its there are times when he stops and asks himself “How did this happen?”
Flemyng, who is best known for playing gangsters, has known Statham for over 30 years and re the star from the days when he drove a white van. He also gives us the inside story on shooting their fight scene, as well as explaining the advice his director father gave him on deciding whether to play a role.
